186. Why Your Money Goal Isn't the Problem

Season #1

You didn't become an entrepreneur to survive. You became one to thrive. And part of thriving is getting really honest about your relationship with money and the background thoughts that are working against everything you say you want.

In this episode Jillian talks about the difference between having a money goal and needing that goal to feel okay. Because those are two completely different things, and most of us have never separated them.

In this episode:

  • Why becoming profitable isn't just about money — it's about having the energy and resources to do your best work and live your fullest life
  • The money thoughts that are pervasive in the practitioner community and why they're keeping you stuck
  • The difference between chasing money from scarcity and pushing it away to avoid pressure — and why neither leads to a thriving practice
  • Why hustle is a coping strategy, not a business strategy
  • What it actually means to fail as an entrepreneur and why it's part of the process
  • The difference between having a money goal and needing it to feel okay
  • Why more money won't fix a broken relationship with money — and what actually does
  • How to use the feeling you think the money will give you as the way to get there, not the reward at the end

The key insight from this episode:

Your emotions drive your actions. If you've got thoughts about money that are creating fear, self-doubt, or constriction right now, more money is not going to fix that. You have to feel more free, more relaxed, more abundant first in order to create the money. Not the other way around.

Book mentioned in this episode:

📖 The Art of Spending Money: Simple Choices for a Richer Life by Morgan Housel — a really compelling look at the psychology behind how we spend and what we're really buying when we do.

Having more money isn't what repairs your relationship with money. The journey there is what does that.
