187. [Evergreen] How to Befriend Technology

Season #1

If the word "technology" makes you want to close your laptop and never open it again, this episode is for you.

Jillian hears it all the time from practitioners — the overwhelm of websites, online schedulers, email platforms, payment integrations. And the reason it feels so overwhelming usually has nothing to do with the technology itself. It has everything to do with the story you're telling yourself about it.

This is an Evergreen episode, one worth coming back to because the content is just as relevant today as when it was first recorded.

In this episode:

  • Why your thoughts about technology determine the quality of your relationship with it
  • What it really means when you say you don't have enough time to figure it out
  • Why hiring help can be a band-aid if you don't also learn to navigate your own tech
  • The value of becoming a self-reliant entrepreneur who can handle what comes up
  • Why technology is one of the best investments you can make in your practice

The three steps from this episode:

One. Practice new thoughts about technology. Start with something simple like "technology is here to help." Your thoughts drive your feelings, your feelings drive your actions, and your actions create your results. If you approach tech with dread and resistance, you won't take action. When you approach it with curiosity and openness, everything shifts.

Two. Focus on one thing at a time. Pick one aspect of your tech setup and learn it. Watch tutorial videos. Take it step by step. Complete one project before moving to the next. That's how you build confidence without burning out.

Three. Celebrate when you learn something new. We were so good at this as kids. As adults we beat ourselves up for not already knowing things. It takes courage to learn something new at any age. Celebrate it.
